Vest-ed interest in road safety
Lancashire County Council's road safety group has linked up with technology company 3M to produce reflective vests for children this winter.
"We chose to give the vests to Key Stage 2 pupils as this is when children may start walking or cycling to school independently," said Dave Smith , 3M's Clitheroe base manager.
The reflective material on the vests is the same as that used by the emergency services and reflects light at night to reduce vulnerability.
"At this time of year it is vital that children can be seen," said Clare Farrer , principal road safety adviser. "We're encouraging parents to make sure their children wear bright, fluorescent or reflective clothing to ensure they can be seen whatever the conditions."
The campaign is part of a wider road safety initiative by 3M, which involves more than 50,000 vests being distributed to schools close to the company's sites up and down the country.
