Please close this window to return to the LARSOA news pages A picture is worth a thousand words A graphic demonstration of a road crash was staged at the recent Stockholm Motorcycle Fair by the Swedish police and road safety department. Police estimated that the biker was traveling at155mph (250 km/h) before the bike hit the slow moving car side-on at a junction. The motorcyclist and two car passengers were killed instantly. At 155 mph, the rider would have been travelling at 227 feet per second. With normal reaction time to SEE-DECIDE-REACT of 1.6 seconds, the bike could have travelled over 363 feet while the rider was deciding what action to take. Police speculate that reaction time was insufficient for him to even apply the brakes. The Volkswagen flipped over from the force of impact and landed 10 feet from where the collision took place - and the rider was found in the car with the passengers. A sign above the display noted that the rider had only recently obtained his license.
