Wigan seeks SCP 'superhumans'

Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council has launched its Unsung Heroes campaign as part of a recruitment drive and re-launch of the council's school crossing patrol service.

The campaign is seeking to reverse the downward trend in applicants by broadening the appeal of the service to anyone aged 18-70 years.

The road safety team is using four new heroes to help spread the word in schools and the wider community. The characters feature in comic scenarios, saving the day and becoming heroes in their local neighbourhoods. Campaign resources include a CD-Rom and other merchandise and activities for children.

The campaign has generated significant interest, and nine new recruits came forward in the first week

"Unfortunately, the borough is running low on heroes who want to make a difference," says Julie Dagnall, road safety manager. "So we are looking for new would-be 'super humans' who will relish the chance to help protect children in their local community."
