Campaign shows crash 'death'

A new road safety campaign aimed at 15 and 16-year-olds and featuring first-hand accounts of accidents was launched last week.

Pupils in Bristol, North Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire will see a drama showing the death of a passenger involved in a serious crash. The road show also includes talks from families who have lost loved ones.

The event marks the start of a three-year education strategy by Avon Fire and Rescue Service, which will see fire-fighters and road safety officers delivering road safety messages in schools and colleges across the area.

Chief fire officer Kevin Pearson said: "Many of the images and messages used at this event will be hard-hitting, but hopefully they will drive home to young people the reality of the dangers they face on our roads."
