Bloomin' great walk to school
Pupils have had a spring in their step on their journey to two Durham City schools this month.
Children from Belmont Infant and Belmont C of E Junior schools received a flower bulb for taking part in a scheme encouraging more youngsters to walk to school as part of International Walk to School Month.
The flower bulbs, donated by B&Q Durham, will be planted in the schools' grounds. When they bloom next spring they will provide a reminder of the health and environmental benefits of leaving the car behind on the school run.
B&Q manager Andy Watson presented the flower bulbs recently at special assemblies. "Hopefully the event will have a long-lasting effect and when the flowers bloom next spring more parents will have decided to leave the car behind to enjoy a stroll to school with their children," he said.
