Bright sparks pick up safety tips

Up to 4,000 children picked up valuable lessons from Spike the road safety hedgehog in Walsall recently.

Thousands of people attended the six-week long Walsall Illuminations, staged by Walsall Council, and the authority's road safety and Kerbcraft teams hosted a 'discovery' week during this period.

Spike encouraged families to learn and play together with road safety based activities for all ages.

Linda Downing, Walsall Council pedestrian training co-ordinator, said: "The Illuminations are very popular with children and their parents so it's a good place to deliver messages in a fun way. We think we may have reached 3,500 - 4,000 people.
