Park Smart and keep children safe, campaign says

A new campaign to address the issue of parents parking outside the school gates was launched by the West of Scotland Road Safety Forum (WoSRSF) this week.
'Park Smart' features a radio commercial that focuses on the danger posed by parents parking or stopping too near school gates.
Research carried out by WoSRSF last year showed that although 57% of parents told head teachers they thought the campaign was a good idea, only 31% of head teachers felt that parents and other drivers had actually changed their driving habits.
Councillor Arthur Spurling, WoSRSF chairman, said: "We must work harder to make parents and other drivers think about where they park outside schools. This isn't about convenience - it is about keeping children safe."
The radio ad features a 'smart kid', wise beyond her years, lecturing parents on how inconsiderate parking can obstruct the view of schoolchildren crossing the road and oncoming motorists.
The campaign, which also includes weatherproof banners, will run across all 12 councils in the West of Scotland.
