| Celebrity biker goodies go up for grabs at charity auction
With the motorcycle season coming to a close, the Handle It Or Lose It team held an auction to raise money for the head injuries charity Headway.
The auction took place at The South East Motorcycle Show, Detling Showground, Maidstone, on Sunday 26 September. Items up for grabs included a signed crash helmet by World Superbike rider Frankie Chili and a signed T-shirt from 500cc world champion Mick Doohan.
Handle it Or Lose It is dedicated to reducing the number of biker injuries and fatalities, and encourages motorcyclists to log onto www.handleitorloseit.com to register their 'pants filling moments'. Once on line an interactive site delivers safety and training messages alongside invitations to download maps showing 'great rides on great roads' and detailing hazards that can be expected. Riders are also able to tell other riders and the Handle It Or Lose It team where they have encountered problems.
Rachel Moon Communications and Promotions Officer for the Kent and Medway Safety Camera Partnership said: "We have had really positive feedback from bikers during Handle It or Lose It events this summer and the merchandise pants have been very popular - making for some interesting photos that can be seen on the website!
"I believe Handle It Or Lose It is successful because we listen to the motorcyclist, and although the campaign has a serious side we have avoided a heavy handed approach," she added. "Motorbike riding is all about getting out on the road and enjoying yourself - but we want our bikers to go home to their families at the end of their ride in one piece. Figures are showing a 20 per cent drop in the number of fatal bike crashes on Kent and Medway's roads compared to the same period last year, which is fantastic news."
