Camera partnership offers sticker to combat tailgating

The Sussex Safety Camera Partnership (SSCP) has produced a bright yellow Back Off! sticker to help reduce tailgating.

"We often hear from drivers who say they try to stick to the speed limit but feel constantly threatened by drivers 'pushing' them from behind, forcing them to speed up to get away from the threat," says Emma Rogers, the Partnership's communications manager. "This means they feel forced into breaking the law by the tailgater and the fact they are going faster means if they are involved in a crash, the severity will be far worse than if they were sticking to the limit."

The sticker, which reads Back off! I'm sticking to the limit! and carries the SSCP website address and a camera symbol, is being made available free of charge to drivers across the county. "We have already issued several thousand of these stickers and people have commented that they really do work," Emma adds.

The Partnership is happy to make the artwork available to other partnerships and road safety teams to enable them to produce their own version of the sticker. For further information contact Emma Rogers on 01273 665669, or 07739 437581, or communications@sussexsafetycameras.gov.uk.
