Fife partnership launches biker campaign

The Fife Safety Camera Partnership has launched Enjoy the thrills without the spills as part of its ongoing campaign to encourage bikers to slow down.

The partnership has teamed up with British Super Bike champion Niall Mackenzie , the Knockhill circuit, and the Institute of Advanced Motorists to produce a leaflet and a series of events aimed at bikers. A year-long advertising deal with Knockhill includes trackside advertising banners.

"Apart from pedestrians, motorcyclists are the most vulnerable road users with collisions more likely to result in death or serious injury," said the partnership's Andy Jones. "Leisure motorcycling is becoming increasingly popular and the many scenic rural roads within Fife can prove to be inviting - but due to a combination of their narrow and winding nature and unforeseen factors such as slow moving vehicles they can be treacherous."

The leaflet, which was written in conjunction with Niall Mackenzie, offers safer biking tips. "I am proud to be playing my part in supporting this campaign," he said. "My simple message to the biking community is this - there are more than enough inconsiderate road users on the road already, so make sure your not one of them."

The leaflet is available at Knockhill and from motorcycle dealers and police stations.
