Northumberland launches new cycle training resource

Northumberland County Council has launched a resource to enable schools to take ownership of Level One Basic Cycle Training lessons.

The resource has been circulated to all 139 of the county's first schools, to enable teaching staff to deliver in-house training in line with the Government's New Standard Cycling Strategy.

The course content has been built around a simple topic based on traffic lights, and lesson plans and supporting materials are colour coded to help staff deliver the work.

Suitable for use with Year Four pupils (age 8 years), the three-week course should help children become proficient at the Basic Level before moving on to Level Two (The Intermediate Course) when they commence Middle School education.

The New Standard has been introduced to focus public attention on the multiple benefits that can be enjoyed by opting for the healthy two-wheeled alternative.
