CRSOA founder member passes away

John Darlington MBE, principal founder member of County Road Safety Officers' Association (CRSOA), has sadly passed away after a long illness.

John joined RoSPA in 1955 and in 1962 became regional organiser for the Association's Midlands road safety division, where he gained a national reputation as one of the road safety community's 'big hitters'.

He remained with RoSPA until 1974, when he became county road safety training and publicity organiser for the newly formed County of Hereford and Worcester. He remained in this post until he retired from local government in 1988.

After his retirement, John continued in the church as a Baptist minister in Kidderminster, and for a number of years took up a ministry in Tenerife. In his leisure time he was an organist of some skill and repute.

John served with great distinction as secretary of CRSOA (which became LARSOA in the mid 1980s) for a number of years and was awarded an MBE for his services to road safety.

John committed a large part of his life to local government and will be sadly missed by the road safety community.
