Roadshow has Impact

Wrexham Council and Wrexham Fire Station recently launched a joint road show to promote all aspects of road safety, and in particular the use of seatbelts.

Impact is a presentation based around a crashed car, which has been donated by TRL (Transport Research Laboratory) and has previously been used in crash testing. Two manikins, representing the driver and a young child in a car seat, display the types of injuries that can be sustained during a collision without seatbelts, even at low speed.

Wrexham's road safety team secured funding to purchase the equipment required for the project through the Welsh Assembly Government's local safety grant scheme. The road show will tour local schools, events and retail outlets.

"This has been an excellent opportunity to provide a valuable service to schools and organisations throughout the County Borough," said Martin Wright, Wrexham's chief transportation and asset management officer. "Wrexham Council is actively working to improve road safety and this high profile campaign will be an invaluable support in that work."
