Four-wheeled star 'fitted up' in Torbay

The car that starred in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was in Torbay on 18 September to mark the day new child car restraint laws come into force.

GEN 11 helped to promote the new laws, which it is estimated could save up to 2,000 child casualties per year. At the event, car seats donated by Britax were handed over for use in Chitty, which still makes guest appearances carrying children worldwide. The car was accompanied by film characters Truly Scrumptious, Jeremy and Jemima.

Torbay's road safety officer, Bev Hannah, said: "It is essential that drivers realise that they must comply with the new laws. Even vehicles as famous as Chitty need to be fitted with the correct child restraints, and we are privileged to be invited to fit the seats here in Torbay."
