‘Highway code’ issued for mobility scooters

A new booklet warning mobility scooter users of the dangers of speeding and drink driving has been made available to Welsh RSOs.

The Highway Code (for Mobility Scooter Users) was originally produced for Conwy County Council, and then taken up by RoSPA Wales.

The booklet is designed to help enforce the 4mph rule (8mph on the road) and convey the dangers the elderly and disabled face on these vehicles.

Ann Mann, Herefordshire County Council RSO, who is using the booklet says: "Any vehicle, whether it is a car, HGV, bicycle, mobility scooter or motorcycle, if not used safely and with consideration could cause considerable damage to the user or other people.

"We've done this as a reminder and put it into an easy format so that people can understand the responsibilities mobility scooter users have."
