Crucial Crew celebrates national award

Children_crucial_crew_aug
Bury Road Safety Unit’s annual Crucial Crew scheme has been awarded LASER (Learning About Safety by Experiencing Risk) accreditation status - RoSPA’s national standard for safety education excellence.

Since it started in 1995, Crucial Crew’s popularity has increased with local schools and 11,204 school children have attended in the last five years. This year, Crucial Crew was delivered to more than 2,000 pupils from 65 schools across Bury.

Crucial Crew enables local agencies to deliver messages to large groups of children in a short space of time. There are usually around eight or nine different scenarios that cover every aspect of the emergency services, domestic safety and safety in an external environment.

It is designed to teach Year 5 & 6 pupils (9-11 year olds) how to tackle the everyday dangers they may face - and help prevent them becoming involved in personal safety incidents and crime. The event consists of real life role-play, arranged in the form of a course.
