Xmas campaign appeals to responsible drivers

A campaign has been unveiled to persuade normally responsible people not to risk a drink drive conviction during the festive period.

The campaign, which is available for RSOs to buy into, features a cross section of different people superimposed onto Christmas baubles, with the strapline: ‘How many people’s Christmas could be ruined by your drink driving?

Jo Lazar, campaign manager at Stennik, the company that has developed the campaign, says: “We've developed 'Baubles' to target ordinary, responsible drivers - the kind of people who wouldn't normally drink and drive, but at Christmas could be tempted to have a couple of drinks at the office party or a family gathering and then drive home.

”In our focus groups Baubles provoked quite a bit of discussion. The fact that the people in the baubles are not identified led to people deciding for themselves who they might be - a partner, father, daughter, bereaved relative etc.

”The campaign doesn't talk about crashes, casualties or even conviction - this is quite deliberate. We want to discourage responsible people from taking a risk - people who care about what other people think of them, and would be ashamed if their partner/children/parents thought they'd been drink driving, even if they didn't get caught.”
