Six months after a ‘boy racer’ event in Leeds, statistics produced by the West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership suggest they’ve become safer drivers.
The Great Yorkshire Cruise attracted young male drivers to Elland Road for a street legal cruise where they could show off their cars and pick up safer driving tips.
Analysis conducted between May and October 2008 shows a marked drop in fatalities – from six to two – and a 10% reduction in serious injuries, compared to the same period in 2007.
Philip Gwynne, from West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership, said: “We cannot say if it’s a direct result of the Cruise but if the event caused them to reconsider their own and other people’s safety on the roads, then it achieved its aim.”
