Safety starts early

Children_safety_starts_early
Primary school children in Anstey, Leicastershire have been taking their ‘First Steps’ to safety – with the help of road safety tutors and the school’s SCP.

The five and six year olds, from Woolden Hill Primary School, are learning how to cross the road safely with the help of the two tutors and their school crossing patrol.

First Steps, developed by Leicestershire County Council, is one of the first schemes in the UK to have SCPs and road safety tutors working together to train young people.

Coleen Shepherd, head teacher at Woolden Hill, said: "The children are really enjoying the course and the First Steps training is proving to be a very practical way to learn.”
