Now in its third year, the Local Authority Cycle Training Fund window is open to local highways authorities in England.
Funding is available to help local authorities offer additional cycle training for children to Level 2 of the National Standard. The grants provide up to £40 per child towards the cost of training.
LAs are invited to submit bids of between £10,000 and £250,000 which will be assessed against the criteria set out in the bidding guidance. There is no upper funding limit for partnership bids involving local authorities working together.
This year the funding is extended to the 18 cycling demonstration towns (CDT) and cities. Click here for details of this application process, which is available direct from the DfT.
Phillip Darnton, Cycling England chairman, said: “There has been a groundswell of support for cycling throughout 2008 and we anticipate a huge demand for the grants. As such we urge authorities to start the application process as soon as possible.”
The closing date for applications to both schemes is 13 February.
