Denbighshire’s road safety team has worked with the family and friends of David Wares, who died after racing a car, to produce a film and song urging other road users to cut their speed.
Mr Wares was killed instantly in the crash in August 2008 just yards from his home near Prestatyn. His mother Edwina Wares said if the DVD helps just one family avoid their tragedy it was a ‘job well done’.
The DVD was launched at a road show attended by around 600 students from Denbighshire high schools. The aim was to deliver a hard-hitting message to young drivers by making them aware of their responsibilities and the potentially fatal consequences of road traffic collisions.
David’s mother was at the road show and took part in a presentation imploring youngsters to think of the dangers on the road.
Alan Hinchcliffe, Denbighshire RSO, said: “The DVD and talk by David’s mother will remind youngsters that loved ones, family and friends left behind when a young person dies also suffer a legacy of pain.”
The video came about after members of the Denbighshire’s road safety team were played the song written by David’s close friend, Katie Benbow.
