Stockton Council is launching a new initiative to combat drivers who ignore school crossing patrol sites.
Vans equipped with CCTV will be monitoring many of Stockton's 70 crossing sites looking out for drivers who fail to stop when requested by patrollers or who ignore them and drive through while the warden is standing in the road.
The joint scheme between the council's road safety and enforcement teams is believed to be the first of its kind in the country.
Peter Fleming, RSO, said: "Patrollers do not deserve to be treated badly by drivers who deliberately ignore them and sometimes verbally abuse them."
Graeme Small, from the enforcement and security surveillance team, said: "Our vehicles are high profile with onboard CCTV cameras and will display messages to educate and raise awareness."
