Support for Pass Plus subsidy

85% of those who registered a view in last week's online survey think the government should subsidise the Pass Plus course for young drivers.

Here's a summary of some of your comments:-

"We subsidised (Pass Plus) for a period of two years and our casualty figures for 17-25 reflected this extra training."

"Although all my pupils say they will do Pass Plus after they pass their test, only a small percentage do so - and they are generally the better drivers with a safe attitude already."

"Increasing support for cycling and public transport would be far more worthwhile than using taxpayers' money to increase motor use."

" If the government were to subsidise Pass Plus then we need to ensure that it's 'fit for purpose'."

"Surely the way forward is to introduce mandatory professional driving tuition to cover all aspects of the driving task, linked with proper effective enforcement. While we continue to pussyfoot around we will continue to see death and injuries on our roads."

"Many areas already offer a £70 refund for those completing a Pass Plus course and this has encouraged many new drivers to take it."

"There's not much to suggest it's successful. A whole new system seems a better idea."
