Bucks launches eyesight campaign

Buckinghamshire’s road safety team has launched a new campaign to remind older drivers of the importance of having their eyesight checked.

The road safety team says that one third of drivers have poor eyesight which goes unchecked and uncorrected – and that drivers could be putting themselves and other road users in danger. As well as driving skills being affected, poor eyesight can lead to headaches and tiredness.

Nigel Spencer, RSO, said: “Having the car serviced is routine for most motorists and yet eyes are equally as important as good tyres or brakes. Most eye defects can be easily rectified with the correct prescription glasses, while some medical conditions can be diagnosed at an early stage during a regular eye test”
