Help for ‘rusty’ drivers

Lancashire’s Road Safety Group says its ‘Drive On’ course could help thousands of drivers who take a break from driving after taking their test, or only rarely drive.

A recent survey, commissioned by Churchill Car Insurance, shows that as many as 11% of motorists do not drive for two years or more after passing their test and around 7% drive twice a month or less - with 42% admitting their driving skills are impaired by the infrequency of their journeys.

Neil Cunliffe, road safety group manager, said: “Too many drivers don’t practise enough before and after they’ve passed their driving test and many are not comfortable in varying conditions and situations. We offer driver training to help people refresh their skills and tackle areas they have particular problems with.”
