Companies help children shine

Portsmouth's schoolchildren are benefiting from local businesses that are helping to kit them out with hi-visibility safety gear.

The Hi-vis tabards will make pupils safer when they are out on school trips or taking part in activities like cycle or pedestrian training. Previously, few city schools had enough to kit out a whole class.

Earlier this year Portsmouth's road safety team appealed for sponsorship to get a full set of tabards (two adults and 30 for children) for each primary school. The appeal was ‘massively successful’ and now all 53 primary schools in the city have at least two sets of 30 jackets.

To say thank-you to the local donors, around 100 children from city centre schools walked to the Guildhall wearing the jackets, before spelling out the words ‘Hi-viz’ on the steps.
