Safer driving for older drivers

Older_drivers_Devon_cornwall_campaign
Earlier this year Devon’s road safety team launched its ‘Driving Safer For Longer’ project, in partnership with Devon and Cornwall Constabulary.

“Driving Safer For Longer came about following a fatal collision in 2004 involving an at fault older driver,” says Nigel Flower, RSO. “The project aims to keep people driving safely for longer by making them aware of the problems and issues they face as they get older - and helping them decide when might be the right time to retire (from driving) and how to cope when they do so.”

The project comprises three elements: an information pack covering a wide range of subjects including keeping fit, the use of medicines, the time to give up driving and life after driving; an informal workshop covering modern driving and common causes of collisions involving older drivers; and a one hour driving assessment with an approved ADI.
