Teenagers teach safety

Children_PALS
Southend’s road safety team has launched a new project transforming sixth formers into RSOs, who then teach road safety to their younger primary school peers.

‘Peer Assisted Learning Scheme’ (PALS) harnesses the creative ideas of young people to produce road safety resources (plays, puppet shows, DVDs and artwork) and influence the behaviour of others. The road safety team helps schools develop the resources and organises links with local primary schools.

Roberta Everitt, PALS coordinator, said: “PALS has been a huge success so far - schools and students have shown a lot of support for the scheme and we have a whole year of activities booked in already.”

For more details about the scheme, which has been funded by DfT, contact Roberta Everitt on 01702 215712, or robertaeveritt@southend.gov.uk
