Safety drive for horse riders

Redcar and Cleveland Council has launched a safety drive for the Borough's horse riders.

Saltburn Riding School hosted the first event, delivered by the council in partnership with the British Horse Society, local bridleway groups and livery yards, on 2 December.

Councillor Mary Lanigan said: "We believe the Borough has around 2,500 horses stabled, so equestrian road safety is a big issue. The bridleway network is limited and fragmented so most riders are forced to use our roads, many with little or no road experience. We're saying to all riders - your safety is your responsibility.”
