LAs urged to apply for cycle funding

Cyclists_merseyside_cycle_training
Merseyside’s cycle training scheme is delivering Bikeability accredited cycle training to more than 11,000 children in 2007/8 – the highest number in the country – thanks in part to funding provided by Cycling England.

The training is delivered as a partnership between Knowsley, Liverpool, Merseytravel, St Helens, Sefton, Wirral and not-for-profit social enterprise, Cycling Solutions CIC.

Steve Whitehouse, Sefton Council, says: “Cycling England has funding available to local authorities to provide additional accredited cycle training, and the bidding process for 2008-09 will open shortly.

“Local authorities are often reluctant to bid because they don't have the capacity to deliver additional training but one way round this is to find an outside provider. There is a range of accredited providers - some not-for-profit, some commercial - who can provide this capacity.”

For further information contact Steve Whitehouse on 0151 934 4231 or Steve.Whitehouse@technical.sefton.gov.uk
or Cycling Solutions Community Interest Company on 0151 234 9484 or colin@cyclingsolutions.co.uk
