Festive drink drive success

A drink drive campaign by Kingston and Richmond road safety units appears to have been successful – with no fatalities in the area during the festive period.

Sam Merison, Kingston’s RSO said: “Last year we saw a spate of deaths from drink-driving – all young people who lost their lives needlessly. This year we hammered home the message that risking a drink before driving can mean risking everything.”

The campaign included pastors on Kingston’s streets talking to young people on a night out - giving advice and distributing anti drink-drive leaflets with alternative travel options.

The Kingston Road Safety & Travel Awareness Student Council devised a radio advert, which aired on South West London’s Radio Jackie. And posters highlighting the risks of drink driving were displayed in town centres, pubs and clubs.
