Speedy Beavers

Children_speedy_beavers
Beavers Club members in Carbis Bay, Cornwall have gained their police badge by taking part in a community-based project.

Working with St Ives police and Cornwall’s road safety unit, the children used hand held speed detection equipment to record motorists’ speed on a problem stretch of road. The police also used cameras to confirm the speed of drivers and pulled over those who were travelling over the speed limit.

Offenders were directed to another group of children who asked why they were speeding, and how they would explain to their parents if one of them had been knocked down?

The questions were designed to get drivers to think about their speed and take responsibility for their driving.
