Initiative encourages riders to report hazards

MOTORCYCLIST_report_a_road
A new initiative backed by the Highways Agency (HA) is intended to make it easier for bikers to report faults on the UK road network.

‘Report a Road’ is for riders who feel that flawed design or poor maintenance of a stretch of road may have contributed to a crash or near miss. More than 29 authorities from across the country have signed up to the pilot.

Riders can log onto www.handleitorloseit.com and then follow the on-screen guide. When the problem road is identified, riders can position an indicator at exactly the right spot to identify the managing authority. Riders in the 29 areas in the scheme can also send an email to the authority, and photos of the road deficiency can be uploaded.

Stuart Lovatt, HA, said: “Two-wheel vehicles can be affected by road conditions in different ways to others. By logging on and filing a report, motorcyclists can help to bring about a speedier response and solution to a problem.”
