Parents get tough on speeding drivers

Speed_richmond_hincley
Richmond Primary School in Hinckley has become the first Leicestershire school to join the Community Speed Watch scheme, under which volunteers log speeding drivers.

Parents and teachers were concerned about drivers going past the school too fast, and approached Leicestershire’s Community Speed Watch co-ordinator to see what could be done. Volunteer parents from the school are trained to use hand-held radar guns so they can record the speed of passing vehicles.

Councillor Nicholas Rushton said: “Richmond’s Community Speed Watch scheme will allow the school to monitor the extent of the speeding problem themselves. Community Speed Watch means that local people can make a difference, by recording selfish, irresponsible drivers.”
